Fill the Void: Make Something Orange

Posted: Lis on Jul 05 | Etsy Buzz

I am a member of Etsy Bloggers, a new Etsy.com street team. Our first writing project is to blog about the color orange. To find some orange inspiration, I searched Etsy for items tagged “orange” and discovered that orange is actually the least-made color on Etsy.

There are approximately 5900 orange items currently listed on Etsy. Yellow has 7197 items. Purple has nearly double the number of orange items, with 10268. Orange is dwarfed by red - there are 16150 items tagged with this color. Green tops red with 21319, as does Blue with 26427 items. Even brown (8750), white (13218) and black (19632) beat orange.

It baffles me that orange is so under-represented on Etsy. It’s a hot summer 2007 fashion color, but neither Pantone’s Golden Apricot nor Le Cuir a Paris’ Soufre appear in the tags of a single Etsy item (although bonus points go to SandrikasFiberArt for mentioning the “golden oranges and apricots” in her hand knit wool scarf).

According to the fashion forecast, orange will continue to be a popular color in Fall and Winter 2007/2008 (check out bright orange Aria), so get busy making those orange items! In the meantime, check out these orange beauties…
