Google Checkout, the search engine giant’s alternative to Paypal, is offering free payment processing until the end of 2007. Customers can use their major credit card to send payments to you, and it works basically the same way as Paypal. This could literally save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars during the holiday season alone.
Etsy, for some strange reason, hasn’t integrated Google Checkout into the shopping cart (please bug them about this in the forums - there’s really no excuse for not doing this), but that doesn’t mean that you can’t encourage your customers to use it. For example, instead of sending reminder invoices to customers through Paypal, send them through Google Checkout.
Google Checkout also supports coupon codes, making having a sale a whole lot easier. Consider having a promotion in your shop that gives a discount to customers who pay through Google Checkout. Just have them choose “other” as a payment method, and then send them an invoice through Google Checkout. Here are a couple examples I found on Etsy:
Bottom line: free credit card processing is huge, and Google Checkout is worth a look.
